Equipment & Rates

Winter Equipment:

There is a lot you should know about rental equipment.  The quality of the equipment you rent really does make a difference and can actually help you ski or ride.  We see many people that spend a bunch of money to get out here, rent a nice place to stay and so on.  Then they rent the cheapest possible equipment and complain about their boots hurting or their skis aren’t good for the conditions, etc.  At least you should know what you’re getting before you rent.  There are basically 3 levels of equipment for the winter- sport, performance, and demo.

Sport level equipment is generally targeted towards beginner skiers/ boarders or more of the price conscience people.  This equipment is typically lower quality or several seasons old.  Shops that offer this equipment level generally only have one type of ski/ board.

Performance level equipment is generally designed specifically for rental use so the graphics and top sheets are more durable than the retail version.  The equipment is actually the same quality as the comparative retail model.  Some shops have one or a couple of choices in this level and may even offer a boot upgrade at this price level.

Demo level equipment can have variations from shop to shop as well.  Demos are in large part used as sales tools to sell retail skis.  With the airlines the way they are, many more advanced skiers and boarders have opted to not carry their equipment on their trips, especially long weekends.  Some shops offer demo quality skis but if they seem really inexpensive, they are probably a season or two or three old and may not have a great selection.  Or, they may only offer one of three choices or something along those lines.

At Silver Star Ski & Sport, we offer basically one package for juniors and  two for adults, high performance and demo.  It’s the same for snowboards as well.  Our junior ski equipment is brand new in he fall of 2011 as is most of the adult performance equipment.  Our demos are brand new every year so you can try the latest and greatest equipment.  With the demo price, you can trade out equipment as much as you want.  This is great so as conditions change, you can have the best equipment to enjoy your day to it’s fullest.

We take pride in our equipment by keeping our skis and boards waxed and tuned every time they come off the mountain so the next renter has the same experience as the previous.

Included in all of our pricing is free overnight storage and if you do want a fresh wax, let us know and we will do that overnight.  During the day, renters are welcome to leave their street shoes at the store.

With all of this being said, you may find other places with what appears to be the same equipment for less.   Make sure you are comparing apples to apples so you know.  If you end renting your equipment somewhere, we wish you the best trip possible.  If you decide to rent with us, we will take care of you to the best of our ability and help you have as much FUN on your trip as possible!

Rental Policies:

New this year is an optional damage waiver.  If you  accept this option, there is a nominal fee per day but we will cover any damage, including breakage of the equipment.   This does not cover lost or stolen skis.  If you decline this, you are responsible for any damage beyond normal wear and tear on the equipment.

All rentals are paid up front and any modifications to the rental agreement will be settled at the end of the stay.   In the event you have a discount coupon, you must present that at the beginning of the rental agreement to get the discount.

Additional day charges start at 10:00am in the morning.  There is no half-day rates.  Rentals can be used for night skiing at no additional charge.

If the equipment is in your possession, you are responsible for it and even if you don’t use it, you will need to pay for that day.  It’s kind of like a rental car, just because you didn’t drive it a day, you still have to pay for the day.  Even if you leave the equipment with us at night, you need to let us know by 10:00a.m. the next day if you plan on not using the equipment.

Any lost or stolen equipment is the responsibility of the renter and will be charged full retail value for any equipment not returned.
